When you are moving, you need to know how to pack properly because knowing how to pack properly makes the move a much easier process for you. When you do not pack properly, you run the risk of having a lot of wasted space and wasted space leads to wasted energy in moving it. You only have so much space in the moving van that the house movers are loading for you, and while they are professional movers who have worked in the moving services sector for awhile, they cannot do anything about you not packing your materials properly. Therefore, you need to be able to pack everything the right way.

First of all, you should always pack everything with the heaviest items on the bottom and the lightest on top. If you do this in reverse, then you will end up with a box that is completely unbalanced and more likely to fall over. Having the heavy items on the bottom will give it a solid base to work with and you will have an easier time moving it.

Second, in terms of weight, you do not want any box to exceed 50 pounds. Smaller boxes can hold more, so fill them with books, while the larger boxes hold less, so fill them with dishes and lighter items. However, no matter the size of the boxes, you should never exceed the 50 pound threshold because that is the average weight most people can move, and it is about as close as you get to the safety limit for your boxes.

When you are packing dishes, never pack them on top of each other in the box. They will break much more easily if that is done. Instead, you should pack them in a way where they are on their side, much like how records are packed in boxes. Like eggs, they will be much less likely to break if they are dropped because of this packing arrangement. When you are wrapping dishes, do not wrap them in newspaper because newsprint will stain the dishes and that will ruin your fine china.

Lastly, when you pack, you want to make sure you pack everything in boxes that are secure. Ripped boxes will break, boxes that are not tapped will open if they fall over. You should make sure all boxes are packed securely and have the right kind of tape to hold everything in. If you pack with duct tape or electrical tape, the moving box will open, but if you pack with packing tape, they will remain very secure.

When you move, you need to ensure you only pack in an efficient manner. If you pack in an inefficient manner, you will end up with using more moving boxes than you had planned on and a greater urgency to make everything fit. Take your time, organize everything and you will do just fine in your moving and packing.
